Let's get into today's topic...
**THE BEST WATER EVER**
Full brag, I am a bit of a water fasting connoisseur. If you met my acquaintance through Reddit, you know that my longest fast has been 40-days! Since then, I've done plenty of 28-day ones, a few 14-day ones, and more 3-7 day ones than I can accurately count. I state this fact to give you an idea that I actually do know what I'm talking about when it comes to the type of water to drink while water fasting.
I made a lot of water mistakes along the way, which this article will take you through so that you can better understand the process of water selection. There’s a lot of details that water nerds like me can get into. I’ll spare you most of them and just dish out the basics.
NOW, for all the eager peeps, let's get right to it, the point of this article. What water should you drink while water fasting? Hand's down, here's my opt-in: I’ve been spoiled by my Pristine Hydro Water System.
Like, spoiled. Hard-core spoiled.
It took a few years to arrive at this point, where I have full faith in a water filtration system... where I can literally taste the difference. I roll my eyes at the Kangen water people, for more reasons than one... I say THAT fact because if you're a true water connoisseur then you'll know why Kangen water is just not the best (far from it, in my not-so-humble opinion!).
Luckily for us, Pristine Hydro isn't a pyramid scheme. It's just a water filtration system. We'll go through the details as we make our way through this article.
I made a lot of water mistakes along the way of "figuring it out", which we will briefly go through in this article. While I can now state beyond a shadow of a doubt that my top recommention for water filtration is Pristine Hydro, my water fasting experiments came with a lot of water turmoil.
Psst.... I actually haven't water fasted in over 3 years, but the type of water you drink is a pivotal everyday health decision, fasting-related or not!

**My Water Journey and Why Choosing the Right Water Matters**
For many years, I hesitated to invest in any type of water filter. Quite frankly, I didn't have the money for a water filtration system. Or, I thought I didn't. I also thought my $20 rhymes-with-Rita filter would get the job done and I was semi-content with buying bottled water “for now.”I rationalized the decision with “I need some time to figure out which water filter to invest in”. This "figuring it out" phase of water filtration ended up lasting a decade, during which I spent 10x the amount of money on water bottles than a Pristine Hydro filtration system would have cost. I didn't "feel" this cost though, since it was spread out in weekly purchases instead of a one-time big investment that a water filtration system would require.
Even during my first long-term 40-day water fast, I relied on bottled water. Living in a condo, I believed that a true water filtration system would be difficult and costly to set up. I was young, naive, and thought everything was so much more difficult than it actually was in reality.
During that time, I did what I could with what I had (my motto!) and researched bottled water brands. I settled on Evian, mainly due to the brands pH rating and low fluoride content (reader's note: this was in 2018, these factors could have changed by now! I don't keep up with water bottle brands anymore because, well... big no-no for so many reasons!). Microplastic aware, I spent fortunes on glass Evian bottles.
Choosing the right water is crucial for health and wellness, especially when fasting, and when I tried to switch back to a different brand to help with cost (one that rhymes with Tsunami) I felt sick to my stomach. I was horrified to learn that many water bottle companies carried water that was acidic in pH, and the Tsunami brand was one of them! How was this possible, when true water has a natural neutral acidity of 7 pH?
The more I fasted, the more sensitive I became to the type of water I was drinking.
**Electrolytes: A Crucial Element When Fasting**
Around day 28 of my 40-day water fast, my body began to reject water.
I didn’t know what was happening at the time. I’d attempt to bring water up to my lips, only to be met with an immediate heaving reaction. Any water I managed to chug down was vomited up minutes later. I felt queasy, exhausted, and my fingers were pruning from dehydration. It didn’t make any sense! At the time, there wasn't a lot of individuals posting about fasting online. Even intermittent fasting wasn’t saturated on the internet, nonetheless extensive water fasting. The best the search engine results would provide is brief information on OMAD... but long-term water fasts? Good luck getting information on how to pull THAT off.
Eventually, I found an article about marathon runners and electrolytes. My body sang YES! Immediately, I went into the kitchen and sprinkled salt onto my finger.
I licked it up and felt my body rejoicing.
The answer was electrolytes. I was critically low, after 4-weeks of water fasting with bottled water, despite that water being apparently fortified with trace minerals.
I was on my own back then. Luckily, a lot has changed in present day as people are becoming more aware of the healing benefits of fasting. When I read the article on marathon runners, I realized I was critically low on electrolytes, despite drinking bottled water that was apparently fortified with trace minerals. Electrolytes are essential during fasting to maintain health, especially heart function! Nowadays, with Pristine Hydro, I drink naturally remineralized water and also supplement with a DIY electrolyte mixture.
I'll never forgot how I went from gagging after drinking water, and immediately throwing it up (BIG RED FLAG!) to happily sipping... within seconds. But why was my body even rejecting the water?
It's a fascinating question! It's a self-preservation mechanism. The body needs electrolytes to survive. I was critically low on electrolytes, because I was more than halfway through a 40 day water fast, and the body uses electrolytes to process incoming dead water (a lot of bottled water IS dead water!). So, in an effort to conserve electrolytes (in order to keep me alive, since electrolytes are needed for muscle function), my body enacted a massive water revulsion. Isn't that amazing?
**Why Distilled Water Isn't the Best Choice**
Somewhere along the 40-day water fast I attempted to drink distilled water. Drinking distilled water was a huge mistake, for me. I will never again drink distilled water willingly. Distilled water felt like anti-water. Water, living water, is meant to be rich with minerals and electrolytes. Distilled water is dead water.
I was immediately met with a massive “no” from my body. Despite this, I pushed through… having read the apparent benefits of distilled water. I felt weaker every time I consumed it. On the third (and final day) of consumption I felt downright nauseous. I decided to listen to my body, and switched back to regular bottled water. It felt like immediate relief, and my thirst returned (it had disappeared upon drinking distilled dead water… this type of water will pull out your electrolytes like crazy!).
Distilled water pulls out electrolytes, which is especially detrimental during long-term water fasting. This experience highlighted the importance of consuming mineral-rich water while fasting... and has forever put a taste of "ick" in my mouth whenever I heard of people STILL DEBATING whether or not distilled water is a miracle god-send or terrible for you (it's clear which side I'm on!).
**Beginning To Follow Nature's Lead**
throughout the last few years of slow reaquaintence with my body, mind, and soul… I’ve been led toward listening to the ways of Mother Nature. She’s never led me astray.
My body reacted negatively to distilled water, and I absolutely do NOT believe in having to undergo a period of “detox” pain. I lead my life with the principle of trusting my body’s communication and intelligence, and not forcing it to shut down and endure.
Nature doesn’t have distilled water available for consumption. This is the same reason why I am against reverse osmosis (R.O.) filters with no remineralization. While R.O. filters are certainly better than the horrid, putrid mess that tap water is (there may be literal pharmaceuticals in your local water supply) and you should CERTAINLY choose an R.O. filter over tap water… they’re still no where close to living water.
Living water is naturally filtered by moving through soil, rock, sand, and leaves. Through this natural filtration process that Mother Nature has perfected, water comes alive as it is embedded with trace minerals like magnesium, calcium, and bicarbonate. Living water, in the way Mother Nature intended, is free from contaminants and has a neutral pH.
**The Carbon-Filter Berkey Filter Experience: A Lesson Learned**
After my 40-day fast, I moved to Hawaii and invested in a Berkey filter, because that's what all the cool kids were doing. And, it was a countertop filter that seemed perfect for rental life.
No, really. I kept going over to people's houses and seeing Berkey Filters. Then, I checked the price tag and saw it was pretty hefty. In my mind, the social proof PLUS heavy price tag meant that it was a good investment. It meant that it was working well, filtering water the way I like it! Right?
Admittedly, I got duped into the Berkey filter on the pure basis of the add-on fluoride filter. It was the beginning of my spiritual journey, I was mildly obsessed with the terrors of fluoride back then, and I was disappointed to learn that other major filtration systems did NOT filter out fluoride. That’s the sole reason why I even went with the Berkey. Funny enough, I later learned that the state of Hawaii doesn’t even add fluoride into their tap water… so my expensive add-on filters were kind of pointless.
My Berkey lasted until I got total dissolved solids (TDS) meter, which measures the amount of dissolved solutions in a body of water in parts per million.
The water from the Berkey filter ended up having almost the same TDS reading as my regular tab water. After an hour+ of filtration, the TDS barely lowered. Why did I pay $400-something dollars for THAT result?
Aghast, I began looking further into Berkey. They have a few articles on their site explaining the TDS conundrum… because, as it turns out, I’m not the first person to become concerned about this! A small voice in my head rejected their statements… without extensive water testing, I have no way of verifying if any of their claims are true. I have no way of verifying WHAT type of dissolved solids were still in my water! Hard water (water with excess inorganic minerals) may have devastating health effects.
I learned that Berkey releases limited data because they don’t want to share “manufacturing” secrets. They don’t even release the actual contents OF the Berkey filter. Sure, I understand not wanting to give competitors manufacturing secrets… but where does the line become drawn? Because really, how complex can a gravity carbon-base water filter be? I lost faith as a customer. I couldn’t trust a simple marketing article.
Berkey has been literally banned from selling in certain US states because they refuse to comply with state requirements of proving their purification claims.
**Exploring Other Water Options**
The next step on my water discovery had me looking into DIY home filters and traditional living water sources (like local springs). However, finding a contaminant-free spring (and testing it by myself!) or creating a DIY filter seemed daunting. I went on a mini research obsession with DIY filters, but it just wasn't feasible for my nomadic lifestyle. True filtration (I’m talking acids, nitrites, all contaminates, bacteria, the whole nine yards… not to mention remineralization and restructuring) seems like a DIY feat for God.
Understanding the pros and cons of various water options is vital for making an informed decision. The marketing sector of the water industry is HUGE, and unless you really know what to look for it is easy to get tricked. I was, many times over.
Traditionally, the ultimate source of living water is from a local water spring… if you’re lucky enough to have access to a contaminant-free one. There are websites available online to aid you in your spring search, but test your spring water, as it may also contain excess inorganic minerals.
My water qualification list was growing to be quite a feat. I was out of luck with spring water, and my nomadic lifestyle made the DIY filter seem infeasible.
I wanted living water… water completely free from contaminates, and vitalized with natural minerals… water with no micro-plastics, that filtered out all heavy-metals and pharmaceuticals, acids (the pollution cycle creates acid rain)… and was portable (nomad life!).
- Water ionizers didn’t cut it for me. It removes acids, but chemicals and contaminants remain.
- Bottled water is unregulated, harmful to the environment, acidic, and filled with micro plastics.
- Reverse osmosis water systems wouldn’t cut it either… it may remove bacteria successfully, but it leaves acidic water, with no minerals.
- Carbon filters are insufficient. They don’t produce water that is completely contaminant free, and leave acidic water.
- Distilled water is completely lifeless (see my earlier paragraph!)
- And tap water is a chemical warfare.
WHAT WAS I SUPPOSED TO DO?
**Pristine Hydro: My Knight-in-Shining-Armor **
Finally, I discovered Pristine Hydro. Hallelujah. I've been with the system for 3 years now. I will never go back. At the time of writing, they have a portable system available (which I purchased for myself, it comes in a little suitcase) and an under-counter unit (which I made both of my parents buy!). My mom, believe it or not, was still using tap water to make soups. When I think of this, I smack myself in the head a lot.
Pristine Hydro's 10-stage filtration process produces properly mineralized water that is 100% free of undesirable acids and contaminants. The acid component to water filtration is a big one that many other filter systems don't take into account. As mentioned, Pristine Hydro offers both an under-the-counter system and a portable travel briefcase system. Pristine Hydro is the ONLY system currently on the market that produces properly mineralized water that is 100% free of undesirable acids and contaminants.
Pristine Hydro’s water is naturally filtered and mineralized, replicating the process of water moving through soil, rock, and sand. This is nature's filtration process! This creates living water with a neutral pH, free from contaminants and micro-plastics. The benefits of Pristine Hydro water are unparalleled, especially for those on a fasting regimen. Whenever I see a streaming river, or a water fall, I always think of Pristine Hydro now. I think of how beautiful it is that a company took the ultimate inspiration for filtration, Mother Nature, and created a multi-level home filtration system with it.
I absolutely adore their water system. I have a rain catchment system that is swimming with bacterial colonies, dead leaves that creep in, slug juice, bird poop, acidic rain, and the occasional bleach I throw into it… and Pristine Hydro filters all of it out. I cannot imagine ever switching back to anything else.
**Why Pristine Hydro Stands Out**
Pristine Hydro discloses all information about their filtration process and provides regular reports (unlike many company's, including Berkey unfortunately). Their water system includes a mineralization stage and utilizes quartz crystals to restructure and recharge the water, mimicking a natural stream. This transparency and commitment to quality set Pristine Hydro apart from other water filtration systems.
**Choose Pristine Hydro for Your Water Needs**
I wholeheartedly believe in Pristine Hydro and have never felt better since switching to their living, mineralized water. If you’re researching water systems, consider the following questions:
1. Does it completely remove invasive acids?
2. What is the alkalinity of the water?
3. How does it achieve the claimed alkalinity?
4. What is the TDS concentration value?
5. What minerals does it have to achieve the TDS?
6. Does it have third-party laboratory analyses available on request?
7. Does the water contain minerals in bicarbonate form?
8. Is the water 100% free of all undesirable contaminants?
I encourage discernment in this avenue. As an absolute water nerd, I’m eager to be proven wrong on my stance that Pristine Hydro is as good as it gets. I want discussion! Lay it on me, baby! If you have a different water system in mind, PLEASE contact me at [email protected] because I’m eager to go through the differences. I whole-heartedly believe in Pristine Hydro and have never felt better in my entire life.
Over the years of water fasting, I’ve developed an incredibly sensitive taste to water. Whenever I drink different water, be it at a restaurant or bottled, my taste buds dutifully inform me that the water quality is no where near my water at home. I’ve started to fill extremely large bottles with Pristine Hydro’s water while out and about.
There shouldn’t be an acceptable limit for contaminants and pollutants in our water. Water should always be free of invasive acid compounds.
